CYLINDER HEAD CRACK TESTING

As part of our assessment and reconditioning process, or if there is a suspected fault, we can carry out a crack test on your Cylinder Head using our specialist testing equipment.

In the case of a cast iron head, this process involves magnitising the cylinder head and spraying it with a special fluid, then inspecting it under a black light to reveal any cracks.

In the case of an aluminium head, this process involves spraying it with a coloured dye, which is left for specified period of time, then washed off with water. It is then sprayed with a developer which dries and draws out any remaining coloured dye to reveal cracks in the head.

Depending on the extent of the cracks, we will advise if repairs can be undertaken, or whether a replacement cylinder head (new or second hand) is recommended.
