Cylinder Head Porting

For increased performance in fast road or race cars, porting the cylinder head can increase the amount of air and fuel that can flow into the cylinders of an engine. This can lead to more torque and greater horsepower when matched with the correct camshaft and valve train to suit the intended use of the vehicle or the power distribution required.

There are two ways that porting can be carried out, either hand porting with a die grinder & special burrs or stones, or more recently with a CNC machine that has 5 axis capabilities with set programs.

The flow figures can be measured both before and after porting on a flowbench to know exactly what difference the porting has made and to aid in the selection of the correct camshaft.
